Welcome to our blog! My name is Kyle and my wife is Emily. We are first-time parents who are adopting a little baby boy named Rogi from Ethiopia, and hope to have him home in the next month or two. I resisted making this blog for a long time for a few reasons. First, there never seemed to be a right time. We were initially paperchasing to work on our home study and dossier and had nothing to report. Then, we waited 18 months on a waiting list and that was certainly not the right time! When we got Rogi's file initially, we couldn't share pictures of him-and who wants to read a blog without some good pictures! And now, we are so close to home that it seems an exceedingly silly time to start the blog now.
There were also other reasons. The blog format can be frustrating. You never know who is reading it unless someone comments, so you never can be sure what they know when you run into someone. If you consider that a not so subtle way of asking for more comments, consider yourself perceptive. :)
So I guess the million dollar question becomes-why now? Well, there's a few reasons. The first is that blogs have been so helpful to us! We are constantly checking on blogs of families who have gone before us to give wisdom on the next steps of the process. We have learned a great deal over the last two years, and it seemed wrong to not share that with families that go after us. We also have seen how hard maintaining a blog can be after a family comes home, and starting a blog must be 10x harder!
So the time is now. Again, welcome to the blog! Over the next few posts, I will be detailing and recapping each of our major steps of the process so far.
