January 10, 2011 changed our lives forever. We had been stalking the phone for a few weeks waiting for the call. It hadn't come, so around mid-day that day we called for our monthly update from our agency. They had told us it might be a few more weeks before we get our referral.
We were about to have to re-do our dossier because it was too old, so we made arrangements for them to send an e-mail with the instructions. We then prepared to go out about 4:30 that afternoon. I checked our e-mail one last time and saw an e-mail from the agency. My mind actually said "Huh. I wondered why they sent a dossier renewal e-mail with a title named Rogi. Seems really strange" I went to open it, and Emily came up behind me. The first thing we both saw were the pictures. Emily said "What is that" and I quickly screamed "A referral" and suddenly all thoughts of going out went away for the moment.
The advantage of writing this post after already passing court? I can show you his beautiful face that we were looking at that day:
We had a small information file with it where we found out his name was Rogi and he was 2 months old. We fell in love with him immediately! The next couple hours were spent calling family and close friends. Almost every person we called screamed when they heard the news! Even though we knew there was still a long way to go, seeing the boy who would come into our family changed everything for us. It turned adoption from a paperwork process to something truly real and very exciting!
